Please note that there are two methods to sign a PDF document.

  • E-Signature: Traditional method of signing. It is not encrypted and does not provide full verification. It also does not allow for blocking further edits on a document. 
    • e.g.
  • Digital Signature (Certify): The most secure way to sign a document. Encrypted and verifies the signer with a password and time stamp. Allows you to block further edits/signatures on a document.

E-Signature 


Create a Signature 


  1. Click Fill & Sign.
  2. Click Add Signature.
  3. Type your name: 
    • Check Save Signature 
    • Click Apply 
  4. Use your mouse to place your signature anywhere on the PDF.


Signing a Document 


  1. Click Fill & Sign. 
  2. Click on your signature from the left side menu.  
  3. Using your mouse, move the signature anywhere on the document and click once to place it. 

Digital Signature 


Creating a Digital Signature/Certificate  


  1. Select Use a Certificate. 
  2. Select Digitally Sign. 
  3. A pop-up window will appear. Click OK and use your mouse to click and drag to select the area you would like to place your signature.
  4. Select Configure Digital ID. 
  5. Select Create a new Digitial ID. 
    1. Click Continue.  
    2. Select Save to File.  
    3. Fill in the following information 
      • Full First and Last Name. 
      • Organizational Unit: Department name 
      • Organization Name: Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario 
      • Email Address: your RCDSO email address 
      • Country/Region: Canada 
      • Key Algorithm: Leave as is 
      • Use Digital ID for: Leave as is 
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Set a password for your Digital ID.
    1. This must be different from your RCDSO laptop password.
  8. Enter the password again.
  9. Click Save
  10. Click Continue.



Using a Digital Signature/Certificate 


  1. Click Use a Certificate.
  2. Click Digitally Sign.  
  3. A pop-up window will appear. Click OK and use your mouse to click and drag to select the area you would like to place your signature 
  4. Select your Digital ID from the list.  
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Check Lock document after signing if you would like to prevent future edits. 
  7. Enter the password you created for your Digital ID.  
  8. Click Sign
